Matteo Marfoglia is the Curriculum Lead of Verve at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, UK. Matteo is an Italian Choreographer and Dance Artist based in Leeds (UK) and Italy. He trained at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome (IT) and later at Codarts in Rotterdam (NL) where he completed a BA in Dance. He has been working as a professional dancer in Europe and beyond since 2007 for companies like Introdans (NL) and National Dance Company Wales (UK), and danced in works by Paul Lightfoot & Sol Leon, Mats Ek, Jiří Kylián, William Forshyte, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Inbal Pinto, Roy Assaf, Alexander Ekman, Johan Inger and Caroline Finn amongst others.
In 2018 Matteo was awarded the prestigious Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales towards his research on how to bring contemporary dance out of theatre spaces and into more unconventional venues by exploring how movement can be generated through a process of responding to communities, histories and the inhabitants of particular places. Since then his work has been touring internationally as part of different festivals and in a variety of different contexts such as Valletta18 ECOC, Interplay/18, Altofest and Festival of Voice.
